What is diseased donor liver transplant or DDLT?
When the relatives of a brain dead patient agree to donate the organs, the organs including liver is harvested and implanted into liver failure patient.
What happens during the process of DDLT?
During a cadaver donor liver transplant, also known as deceased donor liver transplant, the liver for transplantation is obtained from a brain dead individual whose family is willing for organ donation. Here is an overview of what happens during the cadaver donor liver transplant process:
Transplant Surgery
Once the recipient is ready, the transplant surgery begins. The diseased liver of the recipient is removed, and the new liver from the deceased donor is implanted. The surgical team carefully connects the blood vessels, bile ducts, and other necessary structures to ensure proper functioning of the transplanted liver.
Postoperative Care
After the surgery, the recipient is closely monitored in the intensive care unit (ICU) for a period of time. Medications to prevent rejection and manage potential complications are administered. Regular follow-up visits and medical assessments are conducted to monitor the recipient's progress and ensure the success of the transplant.
